Watercolour Batik Summer Camp

This exciting camp will give students the opportunity to learn a little bit about watercolour and masking as well as using expressive lines for drawing.

Together, we will create a batik robot, learn the ins and outs of hot wax and watercolour.  Then participants will                    do a second project of their choosing.  This fun            class is 4 hours long from 10 am to 2 pm on                        Thursday Aug. 8 or Tuesday, August 13.  

                  All supplies included.

                  Please wear long pants for safety reasons and                      bring a finger food lunch.

                  Maximum number of participants is 5 so                            register early.

The goal of all Classes is to have fun, discover your inner artist, and learn to see the good in what you do.  Let's start with the good stuff and keep building from there!

Children and Teen Fall Classes Begin September 17 and 18, 2024
Lessons are scaffolded to help students be successful with progressively challenging tasks.  Ideally, students will be enrolled for the duration of the 32 weeks.  
 

Register for children's classes before Sept. 1, 2024 and be entered to win supplies from the September supply list

Skill Building 
Grades 3, 4 and 5 
Tuesdays 4:00-5:30

$25 registration fee
(non-refundable, deducted from the first month's fees)
$110/4 weeks (32 weeks in total)

The goals for students in this class are to explore new media, build confidence, knowledge and skills, while creating independently and in groups

Projects and subject matter are chosen by participants while skills and media exploration are taught through scaffolded lessons.  Lessons and art exploration are taught through series of mini lessons and projects while an ongoing monthly project gives students the opportunity to apply their new skills and knowledge in a way that is engaging and meaningful to them.   

Students have the opportunity to work with a variety of wet and dry, 2-D and 3-D Materials.

 

Some supplies are included.  Students need to bring a mixed media sketch book, pencils ranging from 2H to 6B, charcoal pencils, an eraser and a kneaded eraser to start.  Students who register before September 1 will have the option of ordering these supplies through BRAE.

Throughout the year, students will need to bring additional supplies depending on their preferences.

As well as building a strong foundation in drawing skills, students in this class will have the opportunity to explore a variety of colour mediums including watercolour, coloured pencil, pastel, acrylics and watercolour pencil as well as sculpture, collage, print making and mixed-media.  After exploring various mediums and techniques, students will be encouraged to focus on one and build their skills and knowledge with it.  This is the ideal course for your middle/junior high school student who want to have fun, develop their drawing and painting skills, as well as explore new mediums and build confidence and skill in the medium of their choice.

Some supplies included.  Students need to bring a mixed media sketch book, pencils ranging from 2H to 6B, charcoal pencils, an eraser and a kneaded eraser to start.  Students who register before September 1 will have the option of ordering these supplies through BRAE.  Later in the year, other supplies may be purchased through BRAE for students who have a preferred colour medium and want to buy artist quality.

Throughout the year, students will need to have additional supplies depending on their preferences.

This course is ideal for the dedicated Art student who wants to

explore new media, and enrich their art background while honing their drawing and painting skills, along with their understanding of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. We will focus on drawing and painting using the student's preferred media, as well as dabbling in sculpture, collage and mixed-media.  Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety new media including, but not limited to; alcohol inks, pen and wash, watercolour, pastels and acrylics.....

The course will develop each student’s:

  • Observational Skills

  • Composition techniques

  • Drawing, Painting and Sculpture techniques

  • Creative Process and Problem Solving skills

  • Aesthetics and Art Criticism

  • Portfolio building is an optional component of this class depending on student needs and desires.
