What a great first week in the Big Rock Art Education (BREA) Studio!
The Little Details Sketch Club started on Tuesday with two students. We have another joining this coming week but there's still room for more if you're interested. These young artists learned about Artist Trading Cards and the art element line. It's amazing how many different qualities a line can have! We played a game, and we sketched some funky, warty gourds from life.
The Big Picture Sketch Club started on Wednesday with two students as well. They learned about the elements of line and shape. They were introduced to Artist Trading Cards as well as zentangles. Then we talked about monthly themes and agreed on the theme Fall for the month of October and began brainstorming themes for the remaining 7 months. Fall will be a good challenge as we are working in black and white during October. So, for inspiration, and also as a follow up to line and shape, we collected some leaves and did some leaf rubbings. We also drew the lumpy, bumpy gourds and looked for big shapes as well as lines (both hard and soft) as we drew them. We accomplished a lot in an hour and a half!
The Junior/Senior Class had a very fun, active class. This class is full and the five students plus myself also discussed themes for the year. We have agreed on Fall for October as well and tossed around lots of fun ideas that could be incorporated into a black and white fall composition. In this 2 and a half hour class, we learned about the elements of art (or in some cases, reviewed them) and how artists use these tools to create compositions with harmony and emphasis. We did some fun warm up exercises, lots of life drawing, a very cool line design using thumbprints, and giggled and chatted quite a bit.
Next week all three classes will have the opportunity to do more life drawing, and emphasis will be on other elements of art such as form, shape and value. I'll make sure to post some pictures then.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thanks for stopping in!
