Before the Snow Flies....

All three art clubs took advantage of the beautiful fall weather this week and went outside to sketch. The Little Details embraced this opportunity so much that there was hardly any studio time left. They sketched two different scenes and did a terrific job of looking over their work to see where they could add more details and interest. Can you see the details they added? Before going home, they did a little bit of exploring with coloured pencils to see if this medium might be the one they choose to use in the future. Next week they will check out pastels.

The Big Picture Sketch Club spent a little less time outside (it was too hot!) and came back in to have some fun playing Back to the Drawing Board. They were so good at this game! Then they sketched pumpkins again and thought about surface treatments they could do to make their pumpkins more personal. They also did a little bit of exploring with coloured pencils at the end to see if this medium might be the one they choose to use in the future. Next week they will check out pastels.

The Junior/Senior students also went outside to draw. While it was hot for the Bigs, it quickly cooled off for these students. Notice the attention to detail and the use of value in these sketches. Plein Air sketching is something that takes a little getting used to and it can be easy to become overwhelmed by all of the things you see.

When we came back inside, we had a great time playing Back to the Drawing Board. It amazes me how well they were able to depict and interpret each other's one minute drawings.

Next we did an elements of art review. The students drew a pumpkin with 7 sections and used one element of art to fill in each section. These pumpkins are quite artful! They will be a good reminder of the things that can be used in future compositions.

Finally, they worked on their October compositions. They are looking really good! It will be exciting to see them finished next week.
